Firefighters Tackle Shed Blaze in Maidstone

Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) responded to a shed fire on Sutton Road in Langley, Maidstone, on Sunday evening, February 23, 2025.

The alarm was raised at 7.05pm, prompting the swift arrival of two fire engines. Firefighters discovered a tumble dryer ablaze inside an outbuilding, with flames having spread to a nearby washing machine. Using a high-pressure hose reel jet, crews managed to bring the fire under control and safely removed the damaged appliances from the shed.

The incident was fully resolved by 7.50pm. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries.

To assist in tackling the blaze, firefighters utilized thermal imaging cameras to ensure no hotspots remained and employed small access tools during the operation.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown, and investigations are ongoing.

In the aftermath of the incident, KFRS has issued a reminder to residents about the importance of regularly checking smoke alarms. A spokesperson said, “Fires can happen when you least expect them. Ensuring your smoke alarms are working could make all the difference in an emergency.”

Kent Fire and Rescue Service also advises homeowners to avoid leaving appliances like tumble dryers and washing machines running unattended, particularly overnight, to reduce the risk of fire.
