UK Cracks Down on Disturbing Deepfake Sex Crimes

The government has launched a tough new law targeting sickos who create sexually explicit deepfake images. These hyper-realistic fake photos often victimise innocent people without their consent. Now, making such images will be a criminal offence with serious penalties.

New Law Targets Deepfake Perverts

  1. Creation Is a Crime: Producing any sexually explicit deepfake image is now illegal.
  2. Heavy Fines: Offenders face prosecution and unlimited fines.
  3. Intent Counts: Even if the image isn’t shared, making it to humiliate or distress someone is punishable.
  4. Sharing Means Jail Time: Spreading these vile images could land you behind bars.
  5. Double Trouble: Creating and sharing deepfakes can lead to multiple charges and harsher sentences.
  6. Rising Problem: Deepfakes look frighteningly real and victims often don’t even know their images have been manipulated.
  7. Built on Existing Laws: The 2023 Online Safety Act first criminalised sharing these images; this new law covers creation too.
  8. Criminal Justice Bill Boost: The offence is part of an amendment cracking down on malicious deepfake creation.

Government Vows to Protect Women and Victims

Laura Farris, Minister for Victims and Safeguarding, slammed the practice:

“The creation of deepfake sexual images is despicable and completely unacceptable – whether shared or not. It’s a cruel way to degrade and dehumanise people, often women. The government will not tolerate it. This new offence makes clear this is a crime and morally wrong. We are prioritising better protection for women against all forms of abuse, including online.”

More Legal Muscle Against Image-Based Crimes

Alongside the deepfake crackdown, the Criminal Justice Bill adds further offences for the non-consensual taking or sharing of intimate images. These measures are part of a wider push to keep victims safe from new-age abuse tactics.

This landmark legislation sends a clear warning: messing with people’s identities in this vile way is off limits – and the law will hunt you down.
