Six teenage boys have been charged with grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent following a violent assault on a fellow teenager outside a Swindon school last year, Wiltshire Police have confirmed.
The incident occurred on 12 March 2024, outside St Joseph’s Catholic College, when a 15-year-old victim – who was just 14 at the time – was subjected to a serious assault. He sustained significant injuries as a result of the attack.
Charges and Court Proceedings
The six suspects, all boys aged between 13 and 17, have now been charged under Section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act, which relates to GBH with intent – one of the most serious forms of assault in UK law.
In addition, two of the boys, aged 13 and 17, also face charges of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
All six have been bailed and are due to appear before Swindon Youth Court on 30 April 2025.
Police Statement
A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said:
“This was a deeply concerning incident that left a young boy with serious injuries. We understand the impact such violence has on the community and particularly on young people and families in the area. We have carried out a thorough investigation, and the charges brought today reflect the gravity of the offence.”
School Community Reaction
St Joseph’s Catholic College has not released a formal statement, but sources indicate that the school has supported both the victim and police throughout the investigation. The attack sparked shock among parents and pupils in the local area.
The case will now proceed through the youth justice system. Due to the age of those involved, their identities are protected under UK law.
