Romeesa Ahmed Jailed for Nine Years After Fatal Collision in Leeds

Romeesa Ahmed has been sentenced to nine years in prison today after causing the death of a woman and seriously injuring a man in a devastating collision in Leeds last year.

Ahmed, 27, from Princeville Street, Bradford, appeared at Leeds Crown Court where she was also handed an 11-year driving ban. The court ruled that Ahmed must pass an extended driving test should she wish to reapply for a driving licence once the ban is lifted.

The collision, which occurred in February 2023, left the local community shocked. During sentencing, the judge described Ahmed’s actions as “reckless and wholly avoidable,” highlighting the severe consequences of dangerous driving.

West Yorkshire Police welcomed the sentence, stating it sends a clear message about the seriousness with which such offences are treated.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Our thoughts remain with the families affected by this tragic incident. No sentence can bring back the life lost, but we hope today’s outcome offers some measure of justice.”

The court heard that Ahmed had been driving at excessive speeds at the time of the collision, leading to fatal consequences. The woman who tragically lost her life has not been named at the request of her family, while the man injured in the crash continues to recover from serious injuries.

Authorities have urged all drivers to remain vigilant and responsible behind the wheel to prevent further tragedies on the roads.

Anyone with concerns about dangerous driving is encouraged to report incidents via local police channels or anonymously through Crimestoppers.
