Mark Brinton, 50, from Rockford Avenue, Kirkby, has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for a string of child sexual abuse offences, following a conviction at Liverpool Crown Court.
Brinton was found guilty in February 2025 after denying the charges and forcing his victim to endure the trauma of a trial. He remained in custody until sentencing on Monday, 19 May.
The court heard that Brinton’s abuse took place between 2016 and 2018, and he was convicted of:
- Seven counts of sexual activity with a child
- One count of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity
- Four counts of causing a child to engage in sexual activity
In addition to his determinate sentence, Brinton was made subject to:
- A 15-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO)
- A 15-year restraining order, prohibiting contact with the victim and three members of her family
- Strict monitoring conditions on his electronic devices
- A ban on unsupervised contact with anyone under 18
Victim’s Statement Highlights Long-Term Impact
An emotional victim impact statement read in court revealed the deep psychological toll of the abuse. The survivor described experiencing frequent mental breakdowns, sleepless nights, and a constant need to “mask” emotions to avoid being perceived as vulnerable.
“I’ve never been more proud of myself than the day I stood on the stand and gave my evidence and my truth,” the victim said.
Police Praise Survivor’s Bravery
Detective Sergeant Becky Robinson, of Merseyside Police’s Protecting Vulnerable People (PVP) unit, praised the survivor for their courage in securing justice:
“Brinton is a despicable, persistent, and manipulative offender who now faces a long prison sentence.
The victim’s bravery in giving evidence helped ensure Brinton was held accountable.”
She added that Merseyside Police is committed to supporting survivors of sexual abuse and urged others to come forward, stressing that support is available whether or not someone chooses to make a formal police report.
