Fatal M23 Crash in Merstham: Police Launch Witness Appeal
Police are urgently hunting witnesses after a deadly smash on the M23 in Merstham early this Sunday morning (17 August).
Man in His 50s Dies at Scene
Officers rushed to reports just before 6.30am of a crash in a layby involving the driver of a VW who was standing outside his car, and the driver of an Audi.
Tragically, a man in his 50s was pronounced dead at the scene despite emergency crews’ best efforts. His next of kin have been informed and are receiving specialist support.
Arrest Made After Crash
A man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He remains in police custody as investigations continue.
The M23 northbound was shut for hours between Junctions 8 and 7. The A23 northbound between Glebe Road and Dean Lane was also closed, causing major delays throughout the morning.
Police Seek Info on Purple Audi Q4
Detectives want to hear from anyone who saw a purple Audi Q4 around the A23 and M23 between Junctions 8 and 7 just before the crash.
