Two children and another individual tragically died overnight in the English Channel. French authorities revealed the fatal incident happened as 38 asylum seekers attempted the deadly crossing in a tiny dinghy.

Regional prosecutor Laurent Touvet detailed the horror unfolding off the coast of Pas-de-Calais, near the town of Sangatte. He said the victims were “crushed at the bottom of the boat.” While 35 people were rescued and brought ashore around 5 am, another vessel ran into trouble with three people still missing.

Earlier Tuesday, a separate tragedy struck when a woman was found unresponsive at sea and airlifted to shore. Kent Police were alerted just after 1 pm but sadly, she did not survive.
