Boots’ Biggest Shoplifter Busted: Liam Hutchinson Jailed for £100k Theft Spree

Liam Hutchinson, a notorious shoplifter, has finally been nailed after nearly 100 thefts from Boots stores across the UK. The Met Police revealed he pinched over £100,000 worth of goods during a brazen spree from May to August 2025. CCTV caught him stuffing bags and coats with pricey electricals and razors. In one daring clip, a store worker tries to stop him—but Hutchinson slips away in seconds.

Hard Hitting Sentences and Nationwide Boots Ban

Hutchinson landed a 12-month jail term plus a 10-year Criminal Behaviour Order. This ban blocks him from entering any Boots store across the UK for a whole decade. That’s not all. He’s also banned from Chelsea and Kensington for five years, areas he frequently targeted.

“Hutchinson targeted Boots stores across Chelsea and Kensington, costing the business a whopping £107,000 in losses,” said Sergeant Jack Vine from the Met’s Volume Crime Team.

“This sentence sends a clear message: retail crime will not be tolerated. We’ll crack down hard on those who pick on workers and rack up huge business losses.”

Boots & Met Police Join Forces to Fight Shoplifting Surge

Boots’ Head of Security, Nicky Harrop, stressed their zero-tolerance approach. “We’re investing heavily in theft prevention, protecting staff, and supporting police with solid evidence to tackle crime.”

With shoplifting soaring by 54% in London since 2023, Boots and the Met say teamwork is vital to keep stores safe for customers and workers.

London’s Shoplifting Crisis: The Numbers Don’t Lie

  • Almost 90,000 shoplifting offences recorded in London in 2024, up from 58,000 the previous year (ONS data).
  • Shoplifting outside London rose 15% across England.
  • Theft from individuals in London jumped 41% last year.

Mayor Sadiq Khan vows to tackle crime and its root causes but pointed out London’s high shoplifting figures partly come from having “a lot of shops” compared to other areas.

Public Reacts: Skepticism Over Enforcement

Not everyone is convinced tougher bans will stick. One social media user snapped: “Who’s going to make sure this ban sticks? Police? Probation? Nope. He’ll be out in months, thanks to lenient policing.”

What This Bust Means for London

Hutchinson’s conviction is a sharp warning to shoplifters everywhere. The Met is finally cracking down hard on retail crime. But with millions lost and theft soaring, the battle to keep London’s shops safe is far from over.
