Man Airlifted to Hospital after Head on Road Collision in Ryde

A road in Ryde remains closed after a serious collision involving two vehicle, this afternoon on the Isle of Wight. One man has been airlifted to hospital with serious life changing injuries. Emergency services rushed to the scene on Smallbrook Lane in Ryde just before midday. Two Fire Crews stationed at Ryde and Newport attended the incident. Crews using cutting equipment excreted a number of people from the two badly damaged Renault and Vauxhall vehicles which  had both left the highway. The driver of one of the vehicles has been airlifted to Southampton General hospital A number of ambulances from Isle of Wight Ambulance service were sent to the scene along with the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance said an NHS trust spokesman. A woman from one of the vehicles has been taken to St Mary’s hospital in Newport The Road remains blocked in both directions whilst Police carry out collision investigation work and the vehicles are removed from the scene. A spokesman from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police Road Policing said the incident is serious. Drivers are advised that the road will remain closed for a number of hours. Local diversion are in place.
