Southsea Boy Andrew and Hampshire Fire Service Celebrate Big Win
A heartwarming double triumph for Southsea’s own Andrew Impey and Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service (HFRS) has captured local hearts. Not only did the 11-year-old autistic fundraiser win Young Person of the Year, but he also handed the top public sector accolade to his beloved fire service!
Fanboy Andrew’s Fire Service Award
Andrew, a dedicated fan of Hampshire’s firefighters, nominated HFRS as the best public sector organisation in the area. At the portsmouth/" title="Portsmouth" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Portsmouth Youth Voice Awards 2017, he proudly presented the award to Chief Dave Curry and Deputy Chief Neil Odin. The young hero’s admiration runs deep—he’s visited every fire station in Hampshire, some multiple times, soaking up support and friendship along the way.
The Ultimate Firefighter Fan on a UK Mission
Andrew isn’t stopping at Hampshire. He’s already ticked off over 1,000 fire stations across the UK on his ambitious mission to visit them all. His passion has won him multiple award nominations and even an opportunity to visit the legendary FDNY in New York. European fire stations are also on his radar!
Aspiring Firefighter with Big Dreams
Andrew told reporters, “I think of Hampshire firefighters as my friends and I was pleased I was able to give them this award. I think they are really good role models.” He hopes to join Hampshire’s fire service one day.
Andrew’s mum Kirstine shared,
“When we took Andrew to visit a fire station one Christmas Eve to give him something to do, we had no idea it would lead to this. At the time he could barely read and didn’t like talking to anyone – now he reads every fire magazine and gives interviews. The fire service has given us a child we didn’t have before.”
