Isle of Wight Care Home on Lockdown After Police Dog Handler Attacked
A Bembridge care home remains in lockdown following a violent attack on a police dog handler. The incident unfolded late Sunday night (July 16) at Inver House and Langham Court on Forelands Road.
Chaos as Police Dog Handler Is Attacked
Just after 10pm, officers rushed to the care home after staff dialled 999. A Hampshire Constabulary dog handler was assaulted by a resident who reportedly smashed windows to break into the home before turning on the officer. The handler suffered injuries and was treated at the scene before being taken for medical care.
Massive Police Response to Incident
- Ten police units, including an armed response vehicle and two dog units, stormed the scene.
- Two police vans and five response cars also attended.
- The attacker was arrested shortly before 10.15pm.
Damage at Care Home & Ongoing Lockdown
Smashed and reinforced glass windows at the home’s entrance show the scale of damage caused during the attack. Stag Lane Motors recovered the police handler’s vehicle as the home remains sealed off. Three police cars continue to guard the premises.
Care Home Manager Silent on Incident
The care home manager declined to comment, citing shock and stating it is a police matter.
