Drug Dealer Caught Red-Handed with £400K Cocaine Stash
Christopher Morris, 42, from Stone Cross, was sentenced at Lewes Crown Court on Monday 11 April. He admitted possession of four kilos of cocaine with intent to supply, plus money laundering charges.
Stopped by Specialist Enforcement Unit
On 15 December last year, Morris had just left his home when officers from the county’s Specialist Enforcement Unit (SEU) pulled him over. These cops target serious organised crime on the roads.
While speaking to Morris, who was alone in his car, officers spotted him looking behind. They checked the rear footwell and found a bag containing two smaller bags: one held four one-kilo packs of cocaine worth up £400,000 on the streets, the other stuffed with £40,000 in cash.
More Drugs and Cash Found at Home
Police raided Morris’s home next, uncovering more cocaine and several thousand pounds in cash. Morris claimed he was carrying the drugs and cash under duress for dealers but failed to provide any proof.
With no evidence to back his story, he had no choice but to plead guilty.
Proceeds of Crime Action Underway
Police financial experts are now preparing to seize assets Morris made from his drug dealings under the Proceeds of Crime Act. Court orders are set to freeze his ill-gotten gains.
“This is another example of colleagues working together to disrupt drugs supply in our communities,” said a spokesperson.
