East Sussex Fire Service Nails Tower Block Drill in Eastbourne
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service pulled off a high-stakes fire drill at South Cliff Tower on Bolsover Road, Eastbourne yesterday. This exercise is just one of six being staged across the region to sharpen their skills tackling fires in tall residential buildings.
Preparing for the Worst in High-Rise Homes
The series of drills aim to guarantee swift, effective responses when flames break out in towering apartment blocks. Firefighters are undergoing rigorous training to ensure they can handle emergencies in these complex structures and keep residents safe.
The exercises also extend to Hastings, Eastbourne, and Brighton, covering key spots across East Sussex.
Fire Chief: Training Keeps Getting Tougher
“We are always learning from national and local incidents and improving the way we respond to emergencies. In East Sussex, we have a great many residential tall buildings and it is our job to ensure that all residents in our community keep themselves safe from fire and reduce the risk in their homes. We are continuing to do a lot of work to support buildings to improve the safety for their occupants. As a fire and rescue service, we have recently delivered the latest up-to-date training to all of our firefighters and these exercises will allow them to enhance their training.” – Assistant Director Operational Support and Resilience Hannah Scott-Youldon
Committed to Community Safety
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service is doubling down on protecting residents. These live drills play a crucial role in preparing crews for any blaze, no matter how tall the building. Their ongoing efforts aim to reduce fire risks and keep every tower block tenant safe.
