XL Bully ‘Rex’ to Be Destroyed After Savage Attack in Wiltshire Village – UKNIP

A fearsome XL Bully named Rex is set to be put down after a terrifying attack in the sleepy Wiltshire village of Little Somerford.

Rex’s Repeated Escapes Spark Fury

Rosa Tennant’s dog, Rex, who held a DEFRA exemption certificate, first escaped in July 2024. She was warned then to secure her property properly.

Just months later, in November 2024, Rex broke free again—this time without a lead, collar, or muzzle. He viciously attacked a spaniel and its owner, leaving both with lasting physical and psychological injuries nearly a year on.

Owner Fined and Sentenced; Dog Taken Away

Wiltshire Police seized Rex immediately. Tennant, 32, of The Hill, Little Somerford, pleaded guilty to owning a dog dangerously out of control causing injury and possessing a fighting dog in breach of exemption rules.

  • 120 hours unpaid work for Tennant
  • £477 compensation to victim
  • £1,500 in kennel fees
  • Rex to be humanely destroyed unless an appeal is lodged

Police Crack Down on Dangerous Dogs

“We took swift action to ensure the dog was seized,” said PC Paul Croft from Wiltshire’s Dangerous Dogs team.

“Tennant showed no remorse and avoided responsibility for allowing Rex to escape and attack. Laws banning certain breeds and imposing strict conditions are there to protect the public. We will keep enforcing them hard.”

The community remains shaken but relieved that action has been taken against the dangerous canine.
