Ferocious XL Bully Rex to Be Put Down After Shocking Wiltshire Attack
A massive XL Bully named Rex is facing the needle after a brutal attack in the quiet Wiltshire village of Little Somerford.
Rex’s Escapes Spark Outrage
Rosa Tennant’s dog Rex, who was allowed under a DEFRA exemption certificate, first broke free in July 2024. She was warned to better secure her property then.
But just months later, in November 2024, Rex escaped again—this time without any lead, collar, or muzzle. The vicious dog attacked a spaniel and its owner, leaving them with lasting physical and psychological scars nearly a year on.
Owner Slapped with Fine and Community Order; Rex Seized
Wiltshire Police moved swiftly to seize Rex. Tennant, 32, from The Hill, Little Somerford, admitted owning a dog dangerously out of control causing injury and breaching exemption laws on fighting dog possession.
- 120 hours unpaid community work for Tennant
- £477 compensation ordered for the victim
- £1,500 kennel fees to cover dog’s boarding
- Rex set to be humanely destroyed unless an appeal is filed
Police Crack Down: No Nonsense on Dangerous Dogs
“We took swift action to ensure the dog was seized,” said PC Paul Croft of Wiltshire’s Dangerous Dogs team.
“Tennant showed no remorse and refused responsibility for letting Rex escape and attack. Our breed bans and strict controls exist to protect the public. We will keep enforcing them hard.”
The local community is shaken but relieved that firm action has been taken to keep them safe from dangerous canines like Rex.
