Tragedy at Imperial Beach: Four Dead, Five Hurt After Boat Capsizes
Disaster struck off Imperial Beach near San Diego in the early hours of Saturday. A small panga boat flipped over, killing at least four people and injuring five others.
The US Coast Guard and San Diego County Sheriff’s Office rushed to the scene around 12:30am. Rescuers found one occupant floating unresponsive, while three more bodies were recovered near the Imperial Beach Pier. Five survivors were taken to hospital with minor injuries, reports say.
The victims’ identities remain undisclosed as officials continue their investigation.
Local Fisherman Speaks Out from the Pier
Angel Flores, a local fisherman, witnessed the terrifying rescue. He told Sideo TV: “We were just chilling with friends, fishing for a couple of hours when we noticed a helicopter circling above.”
Flores’s brother was the first to spot a lifeless figure in the water, prompting an urgent 911 call. The grim discovery shocked everyone nearby.
Search and Investigation Underway
The overturned boat eventually washed ashore. Police scoured the area using flashlights while a helicopter scanned from above, combing the waters for clues.
Authorities have yet to release further details as the investigation continues.
