Heartless Fraudster Jailed for Ripping Off Elderly Victims

A cold-blooded scammer who posed as bank staff and police officers to steal more than £100,000 from elderly victims has been locked up for six and a half years.

Abdirahman Yalahow’s Ruthless Scam Exposed

Abdirahman Yalahow, 29, of Walsall, known as Abdi Rahman, admitted conspiracy to defraud at Birmingham Crown Court on December 22, 2025.

Between August and December 2024, Yalahow targeted eight vulnerable pensioners. He spent hours on the phone spinning lies, warning them their bank accounts were “compromised by fraudulent activity.”

Using this trick, he coaxed out PINs and private banking details. Victims were then told to leave their cards outside their homes or hand them over to fake couriers. Yalahow and his gang drained accounts, withdrawing cash and splashing out on luxury items.

Police Crack Down on Courier Fraud Gang

West Midlands Police raided two addresses linked to Yalahow, seizing phones and devices. Digital forensics tore apart the scam, nailing him to the crime spree.

“Yalahow had no regard for their wellbeing and saw them merely as pots of cash to be emptied,” said Detective Sergeant Angela Warren-Smith, lead investigator.

She warned courier scams are booming, with conmen posing as bank or police officials to trick vulnerable people into handing over cash.

How to Protect Yourself and Loved Ones

  • Banks and police will never ask for your PIN or send couriers to collect cards.
  • If you get a suspicious call, hang up immediately, then ring your bank back on the official number.
  • Report scams straight away to Action Fraud.
  • Warn elderly friends and family about these ruthless scams to keep them safe.

This shocking sentence highlights the surge in courier fraud targeting our most trusting, vulnerable elderly. Stay alert, spread the word, and help put an end to these heartless scammers.
