The collision occurred around 4.30am on Argyll Street, a short but bustling road between Oxford Street and Great Marlborough Street, famous for hotspots like the Inca nightclub and the iconic London Palladium. Emergency services were scrambled after reports of a vehicle hitting pedestrians near the club. Three people were hurt in the smash. A woman in her 30s was rushed to hospital in a critical condition. A man in his 50s suffered life-changing injuries, while another woman in her 30s was treated for minor wounds on the scene.
Terrifying Moment Caught on Camera
Video clips circulating on social media reveal the chilling moment the car strikes the crowd. The victim pinned under the vehicle is believed to be an influencer. Eyewitnesses sprang into action, trying to help the trapped woman. A man nearby, seen fumbling with an e-scooter, was also knocked sideways by the impact. Just seconds before the crash, a voice can be heard shouting, “She is going to run her over.”
Driver Held on Multiple Charges
The driver, a 29-year-old woman, was arrested on the scene. She faces charges including attempted murder, grievous bodily harm, dangerous driving, and drink driving. Police confirmed the incident is not terror-related. She remains in custody as inquiries continue.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell of Specialist Crime South urged witnesses to come forward, emphasising the importance of even the smallest piece of information. “A significant number of people would have seen what happened, given the nearby venues were still open,” she said. Investigations are ongoing as the city reels from this shocking assault on one of its famous late-night streets.
