British Woman Struck by Lightning on Croatian Beach
A 48-year-old British woman is fighting for her life after being struck by lightning on Kasjuni beach in Split, Croatia. The shocking incident happened at 3.15pm on Saturday during a sudden thunderstorm.
Heroic Medic Saves Life Amid Triathlon
The woman was sunbathing with her daughter when lightning hit nearby land. As they rushed towards a hotel for shelter, she was hit and knocked unconscious. Luckily, a medic attending a nearby triathlon bike accident heard her screams and rushed to her aid.
“The woman was struck close to the beach and fortunately one of our on-call medics managed to revive her,” said a Marjenski Dir triathlon official.
The medic stabilised her condition until an ambulance arrived. She was then rushed to hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
Police Launch Full Investigation
Local police confirmed lightning had struck the area above the beach and are investigating all circumstances surrounding the accident.
“An investigation will be carried out at the scene and all the circumstances of this accident are being determined,” police said.
UK Government Offers Support
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said it is providing assistance to the British national and liaising with Croatian authorities.
This terrifying incident serves as a stark warning about the dangers of sudden storms, especially near the Adriatic coast during summer.
