Met Police Crack Down on Just Stop Oil Protest Chaos
The Met has swooped on eco-activists intent on causing motorway havoc. Acting on solid intelligence, cops made a series of arrests aimed at stopping disruptions on major road networks.
35 Arrests in Three Days as Police Target Protesters
- Sunday saw three arrests after officers moved quickly on gathered intel.
- Monday brought five more arrests by the Met and neighbouring forces.
- In total, 35 suspects have been taken into custody over the last three days for highway obstruction.
- One protester was arrested after climbing onto a motorway gantry, with 14 more arrested by neighbouring police for similar stunts.
Met Mobilises Massive Police Operation to Keep Roads Clear
Officers were deployed early at key points to act swiftly and minimise road closures and delays. The Met has called in specialist teams from across London, using over 10,000 officer shifts since October to police Just Stop Oil protests alone.
Assistant Commissioner Matt Twist said:
“We acted on intelligence that these individuals plan reckless disruption that far exceeds lawful protest. This includes obstructing major motorway networks which risks serious harm to the public.”
“All suspects face charges of conspiracy to cause public nuisance under Section 78 of the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022.”
“This operation is ongoing. We urge the public to stay vigilant. Report anything suspicious or attempts at disruption immediately by calling 999.”
“Our priority is to protect Londoners and the capital’s vital transport links.”
Justice on the Horizon for London’s Road Chaos Makers
The Met is working closely with the Crown Prosecution Service to ensure those arrested face court. Police warn some suspects are still at large, but officers remain ready to strike fast to prevent further disruption.
Londoners can breathe a little easier knowing the Met is determined to crackdown hard on those who turn protests into public nuisance and danger.
