Carriage Gates Chaos: Man Tries to Smash into Parliament, Sectioned Under Mental Health Act
A man was stopped cold after trying to drive his car into the Palace of Westminster’s Carriage Gates, police have confirmed.
Driver Detained, No Terror Link
The Metropolitan Police revealed the incident happened around midday on Tuesday 14th December 2021. The driver was detained on the spot and has since been sectioned under the Mental Health Act. Authorities stressed this is not being treated as a terror attack.
“A male inside the vehicle was detained before being sectioned under the Mental Health Act,” a Met spokesperson said. “There was no damage to property and no injuries were sustained.”
The force also confirmed no taser was used.
Haunting Location: Same Gate Where PC Keith Palmer Was Killed
The car tried to crash through the same Carriage Gates where PC Keith Palmer was fatally stabbed by terrorist Khalid Masood in 2017, a grim reminder of past tragedy.
Heightened Security After Recent Breach
This scary incident comes just days after another security scare when a man jumped over a fence to gain access to Parliament grounds. That intruder was arrested on suspicion of trespassing on a protected site.
The UK Parliament has been approached for comment.
