Murder probe launched after 89-year-old woman found dead in Tottenham home

Gruesome discovery in Waltheof Gardens

Police have launched a murder investigation following the death of an 89-year-old woman in Tottenham. The body was found at a property in Waltheof Gardens, N17, around 10.45am on Sunday, 4 August, after London Ambulance Service called officers to the scene.

The elderly woman was pronounced dead at the address, with her next of kin already informed.

Suspects believed to have broken in overnight

Detectives suspect one or more intruders gained entry between Saturday night and Sunday morning. A post-mortem and formal identification are set to take place, while inquiries continue to establish a motive.

Officers have not ruled out burglary but remain open to all possibilities at this early stage. No arrests have been made yet.

Police appeal for vital witnesses

“The woman had clearly been assaulted and, as such, a murder investigation has been launched,” said DCI Garry Moncrieff of Specialist Crime.

“I urge anyone who saw anything suspicious in or around Waltheof Gardens on Saturday night or Sunday morning to come forward. Likewise, if you know someone locally who had bloodstains on their clothes or was acting suspiciously during that time, I need to hear from you.”
