Three Stabbings & Violent Scares Rock Croydon in One Day

Croydon was rocked by a series of disturbing violent incidents on Monday, 20 March. Police rushed to three separate stabbing scenes, leaving residents on edge and authorities on high alert.

Critical Stabbing on Elmwood Road

At 4.13pm, emergency services responded after an 18-year-old man was stabbed on Elmwood Road. He remains in hospital, critically ill but stable. Two other 18-year-old men were arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and are still in custody.

Knife Fight in Church Street: Teens Targeted

Just over an hour later, at 5.25pm, police were called to Church Street following reports of a large fight between youths. Two 13-year-old boys were found with stab wounds. Thankfully, their injuries are not life-threatening.

  • Two boys, aged 13 and 14, were arrested—one for possession of an offensive weapon and affray, and the other for affray.
  • Both remain in hospital under police watch.

Late-Night Chaos on Cudham Drive

At 9.51pm, officers and London Ambulance Service raced to Cudham Drive after reports of armed individuals smashing up a vehicle, a stabbing, and gunshots. No gunfire evidence was found, but a man was treated for a minor cut to his hand.

Specialist firearms officers attended, but no arrests have been made so far.

Police Crack Down with Section 60 Order

Following these alarming events, police issued a Section 60 order, granting extra stop and search powers across Croydon to tackle the violent outbursts.

Superintendent Mitch Carr, South Area Command Unit, said: “Croydon residents will rightly be concerned at this spate of unacceptable and shocking violent incidents. We of course share that concern and are doing everything we can to identify and bring to justice the perpetrators.

A number of people remain in police custody. At this stage, there is no evidence linking these cases. They are being treated as isolated incidents.

We do not and will not tolerate violence on our streets. Locals can expect to see enhanced policing across the borough. Anyone with information is urged to come forward immediately.”
