Police Made Multiple Arrests at London Protests Over Violence and Covid Rule Breaches
Crackdown on Disorderly Demonstrators
Police rounded up activists for a host of offences, including breach of the peace, violent disorder, assaulting officers, and Covid rule violations. One woman was nabbed on suspicion of carrying an offensive weapon.
Calm Before Chaos
Commander Ade Adelekan, who led the operation, praised the majority for sticking to social distancing and cooperating with officers early on. “Our advice remains to avoid large gatherings,” he said, “but the vast majority followed the rules and listened to my team.”
Rogue Elements Spark Trouble
As the day wore on, a small group refused to leave and sparked trouble. “Despite repeated orders to clear off, they stayed and disorder escalated, forcing arrests,” Adelekan explained.
Don’t Let a Few Spoil It for Many
“We should not allow the behaviour of a few individuals who attend these events with the purpose of committing criminal acts to taint the good behaviour of the majority who attended yesterday.”
