Tragic Fire on Old Kent Road Claims Young Woman’s Life
A devastating fire broke out around 5 p.m. on Sunday, January 1, on Old Kent Road, sparking a major emergency response. Police, firefighters, and paramedics rushed to the scene amid reports of fierce flames.
Area Evacuated, Traffic Chaos Ensues
The area was swiftly evacuated, and several roads were shut down. This caused chaos for commuters, with eight buses forced to divert between Bricklayers Arms and New Cross.
One Woman Dead, Investigation Underway
Tragically, a woman believed to be in her 20s was pronounced dead at the scene, a police spokesperson confirmed. “Sadly, one woman, believed to be in her 20s, died at the scene,” they said.
Officers have set up a crime scene to get to the bottom of what caused the blaze. Meanwhile, fire crews battled the inferno using a turntable ladder as the flames raged.
