Fire Ravages East London Flat – One Hospitalised
A blaze tore through a top-floor flat in East London this afternoon, forcing an emergency response and leaving one person hospitalised. The fire broke out at around noon on November 9, sending eight fire engines and 60 firefighters racing to Gosport Road in Walthamstow.
Flats and Roof Destroyed in Fierce Blaze
The fire battered two flats on the third floor of the four-storey building while another third-floor flat and the roof were completely destroyed. About ten residents evacuated before crews arrived, and London Fire Brigade rescued two people from the building. Initially, firefighters reported no injuries, but later the London Ambulance Service confirmed one person was taken to hospital after treatment at the scene.
Massive Response as Fire Declared Out
- The blaze was extinguished by 1:28 pm, but emergency teams remain on site.
- The London Ambulance Service deployed an ambulance crew, a response car, incident response officers, and its hazardous area response team (HART).
- A spokesperson said: “We treated one person on the spot before transporting them to hospital.”
Police Detain Man Amid Ongoing Investigation
The Met Police were called minutes after the fire was reported. Officers worked alongside the fire brigade but reported no injuries. An off-duty officer detained a man under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act. Police investigations into the fire’s cause and circumstances are ongoing.
