Croydon Cadets Crowned Champs in London Police Showdown!

Croydon Volunteer Police Cadets (VPC) have smashed the competition, coming out on top in a fierce London-wide contest showcasing teen policing skills. Over 400 cadets from every corner of the capital battled it out in challenges testing their knowledge, fitness, and teamwork.

Record-Breaking Battle of the Boroughs

The grand event on Sunday, 8 July, saw cadets face intense scenarios, from handling a Chemical Biological Radioactive Nuclear (CBRN) incident to managing road traffic collisions, house searches, shield runs, evidence gathering, and basic drills. Croydon’s finest took the crown, with Tower Hamlets snatching second place and Lewisham clinching third.

Top Brass Praise and Hot Weather Heroics

Assistant Commissioner Martin Hewitt handed out the trophies, applauding the cadets’ dedication. Police Sergeant Luke Entwistle from the Met’s Youth Strategy team said: “This year’s competition saw record numbers from every borough selflessly giving up their own time. We are so proud of everyone involved—officers, staff, and volunteers—who pulled off a smooth event despite the blistering heat!”

Cadet Fareha’s Proud Moment

Fareha Miah, 18, from Tower Hamlets, celebrated their best-ever result. “This is my last competition before joining the staff, and my time as a cadet has been the happiest of my life. Coming home with medals is the icing on the cake!”

The Volunteer Police Cadet programme empowers youth by reducing crime vulnerability and encouraging positive police interactions. Keen to join or find out more? Visit the Met Police VPC page: content.met.police.uk/Site/cadets.
