Young Man Shot Dead After Late-Night Music Party
Tragedy struck in Beaumont Road just after midnight on Wednesday, 1 September, when Alex Ajanaku was gunned down while sitting with friends.
Police were called at 1.29am after gunshots shattered the early morning quiet. Officers found Alex injured and gave emergency first aid before paramedics arrived. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:28am.
Heartfelt Appeal from Police
Detective Chief Inspector Dave Whellams condemned the brutal attack: “This was a senseless attack on a young man who had the rest of his life ahead of him. My thoughts are with Alex’s family and friends at this difficult time.”
He added: “We have a dedicated team hunting those responsible. Anyone with information, no matter how small, must come forward now.”
The Incident Unfolded
- Alex was believed to have been at an unlicensed music event on Beaumont Estate on 31 August.
- Most partygoers had left when the shooting occurred, but a small group, including Alex, remained seated on a bench.
- Shots were fired out of the blue, ending Alex’s life instantly.
Detectives stressed, “Gun crime has no place on London’s streets.” They urged the community to help disarm the capital by sharing information.
Investigation and Arrest
A 43-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder on Thursday, 2 September. He remains on bail pending further inquiries.
