Man in 40s Arrested After Car Rams Parked Cars Near Ukrainian Embassy
A man has been arrested following a dramatic crash in Holland Park on Saturday night, April 13.
Crash Sparks Police Shootout
Police were called at around 8.30pm to reports of a car smashing into several parked vehicles near the Ukrainian Embassy in Holland Park, W11.
Officers, including armed and unarmed units, were quickly deployed due to protective security measures at the embassy. Upon arrival, the suspect in the vehicle suddenly drove towards police.
Officers Fire Shots to Stop Vehicle
In response, officers discharged police firearms and a Taser. The vehicle was brought to a halt and the man, believed to be in his 40s, was promptly arrested. He was taken to a central London hospital as a precaution but was not injured.
Investigation Underway, No Terror Link
Chief Superintendent Andy Walker of the Met’s Specialist Firearms Command said: “As is standard procedure, an investigation is now ongoing into the discharge of a police firearm during this incident.”
“I would like to pay tribute to the officers involved this morning who responded swiftly to this incident and put themselves in harm’s way, as they do every day, to keep the people of London safe.”
The incident is not being treated as terrorist-related. The Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed and is overseeing the investigation.
