Loaded Gun and Knife Seized After Police Chase in Southwark
Officers from the Violent Crime Task Force (VCTF) made a major seizure after stopping two men in Southwark. A loaded firearm and a large knife were recovered following a dramatic foot chase.
Men Flee Officers Before Weapons Found
Just after 9pm on Tuesday, 11 August, VCTF officers spotted two men, aged 18 and 20, acting suspiciously on Amina Way, Bermondsey. The pair turned and walked away, then bolted into Lucey Way as officers approached.
Police quickly chased the suspects. A knife was found outside a nearby house, while a bag retrieved from a garden contained a loaded gun with at least three bullets.
Arrests Made on Suspicion of Weapon Possession
The men were caught shortly after and arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm, ammunition, and an offensive weapon. Both were taken into custody for questioning.
Police Praise Proactive Stop and Search Tactics
“Stop and search is an important policing tool that helps seize deadly weapons and arrest perpetrators of violence,”
said Police Sergeant Leon Coltress of the Violent Crime Task Force.
“Thanks to proactive work, a loaded gun and a large knife have been taken off the streets in London. I have no doubt these arrests have prevented a serious incident last night.”
London officers remain on patrol daily, working to keep the capital safe from violent crime.
