First Snow of the Year on the Horizon as UK Autumn Kicks In
The Met Office has dropped a chilly bombshell – the UK’s first snow of the year is expected soon. With summer officially ending on September 22, autumn has arrived, bringing cooler temps and fiery red leaves. Now, the forecast warns of snow hitting the Scottish mountains between October 10 and 19.
Snow for Scotland, Sunshine for London
Don’t pack your snow boots if you’re down south. While Scotland braces for icy flakes, London and southern England are set to enjoy mild weather with temperatures creeping close to 20°C. So, south of the border, it’s more t-shirt weather than winter woollies just yet.
What to Expect This Week: Sun, Showers, and Thunder
- October 6: Cloudy and breezy start with light rain and drizzle in southern and western areas. Afternoon sees clearing skies, though isolated heavy or thundery showers may pop up. Max temps hit 17°C.
- Tonight: Heavy showers, possibly thundery, clearing northeast by midnight. Clear spells and mist patches form overnight. Temps drop to about 10°C.
- October 7: Sunny spells with scattered showers, heavy and thundery at times, especially in the west. Eastern areas likely to stay dry. Max 19°C.
- October 8-10: Mix of sunny breaks and heavy showers with thunder. Watch out for strong winds and heavy rain midweek, plus a drop in temperatures towards the weekend.
Winter is Coming – Prep for a Frosty Season
As autumn deepens, the colder weather serves as a frosty reminder that winter – and the festive season – is just around the corner. Snow on the Scottish peaks could be the first taste of the icy conditions to come.
