Delta Flight Sparks Panic as Engine Bursts Into Flames at Orlando Airport
Passengers aboard Delta Air Lines flight DL1213 faced a terrifying start to their journey when flames shot from the plane’s engine during startup at Orlando International Airport on Monday morning.
Flames Erupt During Pushback, Prompting Emergency Evacuation
Just after pushback, the No. 2 engine caught fire, forcing crew members to launch an immediate emergency evacuation. Passengers slid down emergency chutes to safety, with no injuries reported.
“Out of an abundance of caution, the flight crew of Delta flight 1213 initiated an evacuation after observing flames from the aircraft’s engine during startup. All customers and crew were safely evacuated, and we thank them for their cooperation,” said a Delta spokesperson.
Fire Crews & FAA Investigate Cause of Engine Blaze
Fire and rescue teams quickly secured the scene as maintenance crews took the plane out of service for a full inspection. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been notified and will investigate the engine malfunction.
Passengers Rebooked, Airport Back to Business as Usual
Delta rebooked affected travellers on alternative flights and apologised for the disruption. The airline also praised its crew’s prompt action in keeping everyone safe.
