Police Helicopter Scrambles After Man Flees on Isle of Wight Cliff Path
The National Police Air Service (NPAS) helicopter from Bournemouth was scrambled to Lake on the Isle of Wight this morning after a man made off from police.
Chopper Hunts Fleeing Suspect Over Cliff Path and Gardens
Just after 11:20am, Hampshire Constabulary was alerted by a member of the public near the Cliff Path in Lake. Officers called in the NPAS helicopter to help search the area. The aerial search covered the cliffside near the football ground and a detailed ground search was underway around Flitcroft Gardens.
Meanwhile, officers held position on Wilton Park Road, with a police van parked as part of the ongoing operation.
Police Cordon Block Off Streets as Search Intensifies
By 12:10pm, police had set up a cordon around St James Avenue, West Lake Avenue, and Whitecroft Avenue. The man is believed to have fled from officers near West Lake Garden. Officers are now going door to door, showing residents a photo of the wanted suspect and urging anyone who spots him to call 999 immediately.
Investigation Linked to Threats to Life
Hampshire Constabulary confirmed at 12:32pm that the search is part of an ongoing investigation related to alleged threats to life. The suspect escaped at around 11:15am but has yet to be caught. Enquiries are continuing.
