City West Police Crack Down on Speeding in Old Basford
Speed Guns and Checkpoints Tackle Road Rage
Speeding drivers beware! Following a surge in complaints from locals, the City West neighbourhood policing team launched a no-nonsense anti-speeding blitz on Wednesday 12 July.
Armed with speed guns and high-visibility checkpoints, officers targeted notorious trouble spots Heathfield Road and Barlock Road in Old Basford. Both roads have a well-documented history of speeding offences, causing concern among residents.
Tickets and Tough Talks on the Spot
Motorists caught breaking the speed limit were pulled over immediately. Depending on how fast they were travelling, drivers either got slapped with fines or given stern advice to mend their reckless habits.
But the crackdown wasn’t just about penalties. Officers also chatted with members of the public during the operation and manned a stand at a local community event in Vernon Park, giving residents a chance to raise wider crime concerns.
Sergeant Hinds Speaks Out
“It was great to meet so many people from Old Basford,” said Sergeant Jordan Hinds of Nottinghamshire Police’s City West team. “Engagement like this helps us understand exactly what the community wants from their neighbourhood team.”
“Speeding was the clear priority, especially on Heathfield and Barlock Roads. That’s why we focused our operation there with speed guns and visible patrols.”
“Our goal isn’t to ruin anyone’s day, but to keep roads safe so everyone can get about their business without fear of dangerous driving.”
The crackdown sends a clear message: speed demons will be caught. And the City West police team are determined to keep Old Basford streets safer and sound for all.
