Inmates on the Roof: Drama Unfolds at HMP Albany

Two prisoners have climbed onto the roof of HMP Albany on the Isle of Wight, sparking a tense stand-off. Emergency teams including police and the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue service rushed to the scene shortly after 3.40pm on Tuesday.

The inmates are reportedly protesting against prison conditions and their treatment. Fire crews have deployed an aerial ladder platform, ready for any rescue operation. Specialist negotiators from the mainland have also been called in to try and end the rooftop protest peacefully.

A Ministry of Justice spokesperson confirmed teams are currently engaging the two men at the Category B facility. They stressed there is no threat to the public amid the ongoing situation.
