A motorist was hauled in after flashing a dodgy amber warning light on the roof while speeding along the A33. Thames Valley Police spotted the suspect’s car and pulled it over, baffled by the unauthorised beacon.
Amber Beacon Sparks Police Attention
The amber flashing light isn’t allowed like proper emergency blue lights, causing confusion for officers from the Thames Valley Police Roads Policing team (#XRX11). When they stopped the vehicle, the driver claimed they’d simply “forgotten” to switch off the light.
Driver Caught Drug Driving
But that wasn’t the only problem. Further checks revealed the driver had been smoking cannabis before getting behind the wheel. A roadside drug wipe came back positive, leading to an immediate arrest on suspicion of drug driving.
Journey Ends in Police Custody
The motorist’s tale didn’t get any better. While they did finish their journey in a car with “blue and yellow stickers,” that was the police vehicle taking them straight to custody.
Thames Valley Police’s Wry Take
“Emergency vehicles come in all shapes and sizes, but even #XRX11 were confused when we saw this vehicle speeding along the A33 in Reading with a flashing amber light on the roof.
The driver had apparently forgotten to turn the light off but had also forgotten that smoking cannabis before driving isn’t a good idea. They provided a positive drug wipe and were subsequently arrested.
They did get to continue their journey in a vehicle with blue and yellow stickers, however this was because they were in the back of the police car on the way to custody.”
