Shock thefts hit Skelton as two defibrillators stolen in one night
Two Life-Saving Defibrillators Snatched in Skelton
North Yorkshire’s Skelton has been rocked by a brazen double theft after two vital defibrillators were stolen from public buildings on the same evening. Both devices were ripped from their secure cabinets in a targeted theft spree, leaving the community reeling and emergency services alarmed. Cleveland Police now urgently need the public’s help to catch the culprit.
The Crimes: What Went Down?
- 8:35pm, 9 June 2025: The first defibrillator was smashed out of its protective box at Skelton Civic Centre on Coniston Road. The device is worth several thousand pounds.
- Shortly after, a second defibrillator was stolen from Skelton Methodist Church in Skelton Green, using a similar method.
This coordinated theft has raised serious concerns about a calculated attempt to steal life-saving equipment.
Why Stealing Defibrillators Is Dangerous
Defibrillators are crucial in emergencies to restart hearts during sudden cardiac arrest. Losing them puts lives at risk – especially in rural areas like Skelton where ambulance response times can be longer.
“These thefts are not just criminal—they’re dangerous,” said a local councillor. “They put lives at risk and undermine the sense of safety our town has built.”
The Suspect Police Want to Find
Cleveland Police describe the suspect as:
- White male, aged 20-35
- Large build
- Wearing a grey top, black bottoms, black cap, and white trainers
Officers are reviewing CCTV footage and chasing leads but no arrests have been made yet.
Public Outrage and Cost to Community
Locals are outraged at the “heartless” and “reckless” thefts. Social media is buzzing with calls for justice. Replacing the stolen defibrillators could cost thousands, straining community funds and volunteer-run health projects.
