Man Dies After Police Shootout in Carlisle Standoff

A man has died following a dramatic incident on Borland Avenue, Carlisle, involving armed police and a reported threat with a knife.

Armed Police Respond to Knife Threat

Police were called at 3:37pm after reports of a man threatening residents at an address on Borland Avenue. Armed officers quickly rushed to the scene, where they found the suspect in possession of a knife.

Police Fire Shots, Man Pronounced Dead

Shortly after arriving, officers discharged a police firearm. The man, believed to be in his 40s, suffered gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

No Other Injuries as Investigation Underway

Officials confirmed no other members of the public were hurt. The incident appears isolated. A police cordon remains in place while inquiries continue. Authorities urge the public to avoid the area and have increased patrols around Botcherby to reassure residents through the night.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct has been notified about the shooting.
