Tragedy in Portage Park: 8-Year-Old Girl Shot Dead

A shocking shooting in Portage Park on Saturday night left an 8-year-old girl dead and an alleged gunman critically injured after a violent struggle.

Around 9.40pm, on the 3500 block of North Long Avenue, the gunman approached a group that included the young girl. Without warning, he opened fire, hitting her in the head. Chicago police described the brutal attack as “horrifying,” leaving the community reeling.

Gunman Shot in Face During Struggle

One of the group’s members fought back, grappling with the gunman. During the struggle, the suspect was shot in the face and taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition.

Alleged Shooter in Custody, Charges Pending

Despite frantic efforts, the girl was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital.

Police revealed the alleged gunman knew the group but have yet to clarify the relationship. A weapon was recovered at the scene. By Sunday afternoon, the suspect was in custody, awaiting charges.
