Shocking Footage Shows Black Teenager Handcuffed by Security Guards in Sussex Superdrug
Teen Pinned to Floor in Chichester Store
Disturbing video has emerged showing a black teenager being forcibly restrained by private security guards at a Superdrug store in Chichester, Sussex. The footage captures two men pinning the boy to the ground and placing plastic handcuffs on him before police arrive.
Police Launch Investigation as Tensions Rise
Sussex Police confirmed they have launched an investigation following the incident. Officers were called to the East Street store shortly after 3.30pm on 22 March after reports of a fight involving a group of teenagers. Two boys, aged 15 and 16, were arrested on suspicion of assault and remain in custody.
Mum Speaks Out Amid Racism Claims
The mother of one detained teen, Kirsty Buchanan, shared her outrage on social media after receiving a video of the incident from her son’s friend.
“From what I’ve heard, the ranger pushed him, and my son pushed back,” Buchanan said. “He was then slammed to the floor and sat on, with plastic handcuffs put on before the police arrived and arrested him.”
“I’ve not heard from him for an hour and a half while he was being held at Worthing Police Station. The rangers who threw him down have gone home for tea.”
Buchanan, a former special advisor at 10 Downing Street and the Ministry of Justice, added that her son has faced regular racist incidents and frequent stop-and-searches.
Superdrug Responds to Assault Allegations
A Superdrug spokesperson confirmed the incident took place inside their Chichester store. They revealed a female employee was assaulted during the disturbance.
“An incident occurred today between Chichester BID Rangers and a group of young males they were monitoring,” said the spokesperson.
“Female employees were sadly assaulted. This is now a police matter, and we are cooperating fully with Sussex Police.”
“Our priority is the safety of our staff and customers. We have zero tolerance for violence and aggression. Due to the damage, the shop remains closed.”
As the investigation unfolds, concerns about racial profiling and the use of force by private security continue to mount.
