Man Charged with Margate Murder After Brutal Assault
Kent and Essex Serious Crime detectives have charged a man in connection with a shocking murder in Margate.
Assault in Buenos Ayres Ends in Tragedy
Kent Police rushed to Buenos Ayres at around 5pm on Tuesday, 6 October 2020, following reports of a violent assault. The victim, 77-year-old Sidney Collier from Margate, was rushed to hospital but sadly died from his injuries.
David Harris Arrested and Charged
David Harris, 61, from Buenos Ayres, who is believed to have known the victim, was arrested shortly after. With the Crown Prosecution Service’s approval, he has now been charged with murder. Harris appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 8 October 2020, and has been remanded in custody. He is due back in court on 5 November.
Police Urge Public for Help Finding Victim’s Family and Witnesses
“We are appealing for the public’s help to locate the family of the victim, Sidney Collier,” Detective Inspector Garry Cook said.
“Despite significant enquiries, we have no leads on his next of kin. We hope someone may know him and can put us in touch with his family urgently.”
“We’re also keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the assault outside the hotel or saw the victim before the attack. Any CCTV, dashcam footage, or information could be vital.”
