Man Who Shoved Female Cop at London Protest Admits Assault
A 31-year-old man has confessed to violently pushing a female police officer during a chaotic protest in central London. Jamie Dewing, from Valley View, Saltburn-by-the-Sea, faced Teeside Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 8 July.
Violent Outburst at Parliament Square Protest
Dewing pleaded guilty to assaulting an emergency service worker and violent disorder. On 13 June, he travelled from Saltburn-by-the-Sea to join hundreds protesting in Parliament Square. Early on, a small group, including Dewing, grew hostile to police.
At around 1pm, Dewing confronted officers near the Nelson Mandela statue. He viciously shoved a female officer as she and others tried to move away. She tumbled backwards down steps, landing hard on her back.
Rampage Continues: Spitting and Throwing Barriers
Dewing’s aggression didn’t stop there. Cameras caught him throwing metal barriers at officers and repeatedly spitting at police lines along Whitehall. His violent antics sparked outrage among law enforcement.
Justice on the Way After Identification by Cleveland Police
The investigation traced Dewing after Cleveland Police helped identify him from images released to the media. He’s now remanded in custody awaiting sentencing at Southwark Crown Court.
“Dewing initially denied pushing our colleague but changed his story in court, admitting both charges,” said DC Nicky Dixon. “Footage clearly shows the force he used—his actions were utterly unacceptable.”
The female officer suffered back and neck injuries requiring physiotherapy. DC Dixon urged the public to help identify others involved by checking widely shared images. Cleveland Police backed the investigation.
“This case shows how police forces work together to bring offenders to justice,” said a spokesperson. “No matter where you run, we will find you.”
