A 46-year-old man has been jailed for the murder of a man in Lanark

Kevin Geoghegan was found guilty at the High Court in Glasgow on Friday, 5 April 2024, and was sentenced to a minimum of 18 years.

Officers were called to reports of a serious assault at Mousebank Road, Lanark, around 1.55 am on Saturday, 16 July 2022.

Emergency services attended, however, 24-year-old Peter Kirkwood was pronounced dead at the scene.

Geoghegan was arrested following a search warrant at Melvinhall Road on Wednesday, 20 July 2022.

Detective Inspector Campbell Jackson said: “Peter was stabbed in a reckless attack by a stranger. I hope today’s sentencing will bring justice for Peter’s family and friends and our thoughts remain with them as they adapt to life after his tragic death.

“I would like to thank all officers involved for their dedication and commitment throughout the investigation as well as those members of the public who assisted with our enquiries.”
