Debt-ridden husband James Hammond guilty of murdering wife Sian in Cambridge
Robert Hammond, 47, aka James, killed his wife Sian Hammond at their home in Primes Corner, Histon, near Cambridge on 29 October last year.
£300k debts and desperate lies
The court heard Hammond was drowning in debts exceeding £300,000. He spent months spinning lies and making excuses to dodge repayments to HMRC and a financial firm. After Sian’s death, he claimed the £450,000 life insurance payout would clear the debts.
Police called at 2am – but Hammond always denied guilt
The morning after the murder, Hammond rang police at 2am, saying he found Sian not breathing. Despite this, he repeatedly denied any involvement in her death.
Jury returns guilty verdict
Today (17 July), a Cambridge Crown Court jury found Hammond unanimously guilty of murder. He faces sentencing on 23 July.
