Met Police Fined £6,200 for On-Duty Haircuts Amid Covid Rules
Thirty-one Metropolitan Police officers face £200 fines each after breaking Covid-19 rules while on duty. The shocking breach happened at Bethnal Green police station where a professional barber was called in to cut their hair.
Haircuts on Duty Spark Investigation and Fines
The offence took place on Sunday, 17 January. After an allegation surfaced, a local probe found the officers guilty of flouting regulations. Each officer received a fixed penalty notice for the illegal haircutting session.
Two Officers Face Misconduct for Organising Barber Visit
Police have also identified two organisers behind the stunt. Both are under investigation for professional misconduct, risking further punishment beyond the £200 fines.
Commander Slams Officers’ ‘Poor Decision’ Despite Charity Effort
“It is deeply disappointing and frustrating that my officers have fallen short of the expectation to uphold Covid-19 regulations,” said Detective Chief Superintendent Marcus Barnett.
“Although officers donated money to charity as part of the haircut, this does not excuse them from what was a very poor decision. I expect a lot more of them.”
“The public rightly expects police to lead by example in following the rules to stop the spread of this deadly virus. These fines show no one is above the law, not even officers themselves.”
