Caught Red-Handed: Basingstoke BMX Rider Nabbed with Bags of Drugs
Jason King, 49, thought he could pedal past trouble in a Basingstoke alley. But on 20 July, his cycling stunt near Jersey Close ended in a major bust. An alert officer was already eyeing two suspicious men when King tried to ride straight through them – and got stopped in his tracks.
Massive Haul of Crack, Heroin, and Cannabis
The officer frisked King on the spot. The haul was staggering: 60 wraps of crack cocaine, one wrap of cocaine, and cannabis resin. The search didn’t end there. In custody, King’s pockets and underwear turned up another 26 wraps of heroin plus an extra wrap of crack.
Seven Years Behind Bars for Drug Dealing
King pleaded guilty to possession of Class A and B drugs but denied intent to supply. That didn’t save him. After a three-day trial at 1 Crown Court, a jury found him guilty of two counts of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs. He was cleared of criminal property charges. On 5 January, he was sentenced to seven years in prison.
Detective Promises No Let-Up in the War on Drugs
“King was charged and put before the courts and a jury found him guilty of two counts of possession with intent to supply. The sentence means another drug dealer is off our streets,” said Trainee Detective Constable Pippa Barker.
“We want people to know our officers will relentlessly pursue criminals to keep Basingstoke safe. Drug supply causes harm and fuels serious crime. We won’t tolerate it.”
