Drug Dealer Slapped with £14k Cash Confiscation Order
John Coyne faced Woolwich Crown Court on Monday 19 December 2022. The 32-year-old was hit with a confiscation order forcing him to hand over his illegal earnings.
Suspended Sentence Followed Cannabis Bust
In August 2021, Coyne was sentenced to nine months in jail, suspended for 18 months. He also received 150 hours of unpaid work after admitting to possessing cannabis with intent to supply.
Serious Crime Unit Snaps Up Over £126k in Profits
Financial investigators from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate swooped in using the Proceeds of Crime Act. They uncovered Coyne had profited more than £126,175 from his drug dealing racket, with £14,095 in cash on hand.
Coyne, from Fenners Marsh, gravesend/" title="Gravesend" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Gravesend, was given three months to pay the cash. Fail to pay and he faces an extra three months behind bars.
Detective Inspector Vows to Crack Down on Crime Cash
“Our financial investigators work hard to identify and prove any gains made by criminals and ensure that unlawful profits are repaid under the Proceeds of Crime Act,” said Detective Inspector David Godfrey.
“It’s just as important that criminals are held accountable for their offending, including repaying any cash made through illegitimate means.”
