Triangle of Murder Deny Killing Logan Mwangi
John Cole, 40, his partner Angharad Williamson, 31, and a 14-year-old youth all deny the brutal murder of Logan Mwangi. The young boy’s body was tragically found dumped in the River Ogmore, Sarn, Bridgend, on July 31.
CCTV Lies Under Scrutiny at Cardiff Crown Court
During the tense Cardiff Crown Court trial, prosecutors grilled Cole over contradictions in his police statements. He failed to mention a Nike sports bag used to carry Logan’s body until after CCTV footage was revealed.
“After you saw the CCTV and realised how close behind you the teenager defendant was, you thought you’d have to lie about putting Logan in a bag,” said prosecutor Caroline Rees QC.
Cole denied lying and claimed he couldn’t recall how Logan was placed into the bag. When shown CCTV images, he insisted a white mark was the Nike logo—not Logan’s arms. He admitted in a March 2022 statement that Williamson handed him the bag unprompted.
Mother Angharad Williamson’s Tearful Testimony
Williamson described Logan as her “perfect” boy, recalling a difficult birth and a bond full of love and cuddles.
“I loved the bones of that boy,” she said. “He was such a beautiful, happy little boy. He wanted to explore the world.”
She revealed her relationship with Cole began after a one-night stand in 2019, initially perfect as she hoped for a fairy-tale family. But jealousy and mistrust crept in when she visited Logan’s father in London while suffering morning sickness. Cole grew “cold,” accusing Logan’s father of stealing her affection.
By Christmas 2019, Williamson said she’d lost contact with friends and family. She detailed a chilling moment when Cole allegedly put his hands around her neck, threatening to take the new baby away. Logan, she said, became “needy” and “jealous” after the baby’s arrival – with court having heard about a disturbing incident involving the infant.
