Serial Knife Attacker Nabbed After Terrifying Spree in Leicester

Carlos Racitalal Jailed for Life

Carlos Racitalal, 33, was found guilty yesterday at Leicester Crown Court following a gripping nine-day trial. The dangerous criminal was convicted not only of multiple stabbing attacks but also three counts of carrying bladed weapons. Today, he was slapped with four life sentences, to be served concurrently, with a minimum of 22 years and six months behind bars.

Brutal Attacks on Innocent Victims

Over the course of January this year, Racitalal launched a series of terrifying assaults across Leicester. His victims ranged from a 10-year-old boy and a five-year-old girl to adults in their 30s and 70s. Three victims were stabbed, including the young boy who had been saving a parking spot for his mother when he was attacked and left with a slash to the neck. The five-year-old girl was struck by a car that fled the scene, suffering a broken nose and cuts.

Detective Praises Police Work and Victim Bravery

“This was an extremely complex investigation with very distressing circumstances. Racitalal is an extremely dangerous man who had no concern or remorse for his victims,” said Detective Inspector Tim Lindley. “The dedication of officers and staff was crucial in linking the incidents and catching this man. My thoughts are with the victims and I hope today’s verdict helps them move forward.”

Mr Justice Linden echoed the praise, highlighting the vital role of meticulous CCTV analysis. “Without the police’s thorough and prompt work—especially with CCTV—the defendant would likely still be at large,” he told the court.

How Police Cracked the Case

  • Police launched a large-scale investigation, analysing CCTV footage, forensic exams, and conducting house-to-house enquiries.
  • An image of Racitalal was released after linking him to multiple attacks, prompting him to surrender hours later.
  • At arrest, Racitalal carried a rucksack matching one seen on CCTV during attacks.
  • Knives, including a yellow-handled Stanley blade, were found hidden in his bedroom.
  • Racitalal denied all charges during interviews but was remanded into custody following evidence.

The court continues its proceedings, but with four life sentences already imposed, Racitalal faces decades behind bars for his shocking spree of violence in Leicester streets.
