Stalker Jonathan Cook Jailed After Week-Long Ordeal Across Britain
Jonathan Cook, 25, took a woman on a terrifying week-long journey, dragging her from Whitby in Yorkshire to Derbyshire, London, and Cornwall. The ordeal ended when police found them on Marazion Beach, Cornwall, leading to Cook’s arrest on 16 October 2021.
Family Raises Alarm, Police Spring Into Action
Worried relatives tipped off Nottinghamshire Police, who teamed up with Devon and Cornwall officers. Thanks to close cooperation, they tracked down Cook and the victim, ending her nightmare. Cook, from Holbeck Lane, Holbeck, Worksop, had stalked and controlled the woman for months before the ordeal.
Obsession Turns Into Control and Harassment
Between March and October last year, Cook ignored repeated pleas to leave her alone. His relentless controlling behaviour included:
- Following her in his car
- Showing up at her empty home
- Speaking to her friends and family to isolate her
- Turning up unannounced at her locations
Justice Served: Two Years Behind Bars and 10-Year Restraining Order
Cook pleaded guilty to controlling and coercive behaviour at Nottingham Crown Court on 7 March 2022. The judge handed him a two-year jail sentence and slapped on a 10-year restraining order.
“Cook subjected this woman to a truly harrowing ordeal and was unrelenting in his attempts to contact her against her wishes,” said Detective Constable Morgan Fitzpatrick.
“She looked terrified and was visibly shaking when officers found them in Cornwall after excellent police teamwork. I commend the survivor’s immense bravery throughout this investigation. I hope this sentence brings her closure.”
“Nottinghamshire Police take these cases seriously and will support victims every step of the way. If you are in danger, call 999 immediately. We will listen, take action, and get you justice.”
